ISA hopes to participate in an international service trip each year during Spring Break. During the Spring Break of 2010, eight ISA students built the Chacarita Community Center in Chincha, Peru which was flattened by an earthquake in 2007. The community serves as a pre-school and a location for women to learn and practice tradecrafts, such as making clothes and jewelry, in order to become more financially self-sufficient. The community also uses the center to prepare and distribute the government-provided condensed milk for the local children – which is extremely important for the children’s health. We built the community center in four days and spent the rest of the week relaxing on the beach!
